Would anyone one recommend a dynamic DNS service that has a simple and straight-foward client, script, or service that will update the DNS entry at regular intervals?

In the past, I've used DynDNS but they are owned by Oracle now and they are full pay. I looked in No-IP and it looks like I have to get their updater service for CentOS 7, but I am not sure if it would be easy to set up or not. I did consider going with freedns.afraid.org, and it looks like they have a URI that is available to update the DNS entry automatically. The issue that I have with freedns.afraid.org is that I'm not comfortable with some of their choice of domain names.

    Does anyone have any recommendations?

You can always use the Synchronet Dynamic DNS Service. the synch service but I use but I also use no-ip.com. no ip is really easy to setup and the basics are free. there are extras services but they are for extra charges

    but its a great service.

I second no-ip.com. Very easy to use, and the pricing is in line with other providers out there.

Shell out $12 a year or so for your own domain name through
domains.google.com and then set it up receive DDNS updates.

    https://support.google.com/domains/answer/6147083?hl=en

That way you have complete control over your domain.
