From poindexter FORTRAN@VERT/REALITY to All on Thursday, February 21, 2019 04:41:00
I had newslink want to download 12,000 messages in one newsgroup a few days ago. I ram smbutil to pack the message board and get it down to 5,000
messages (my limit) and it happened again.

I commented out that newsgroup in newslink.cfg, and now another group is
doing the same thing. I haven't looked at the server yet to see if I can
figure out what's going on, but it's odd that both newslink and the server
have been trouble free for years.

    Has anyone seen similar behavior?

... What if I told you you can't hurt the newcomers?

I was running the stock command with Synchronet, don't know the command
line. I ran jsexec newslink.js with the command line to reset pointers and
    all is well.

It sounds like maybe your news server has renumbered the articles. Now
that you've reset, it should be fine if that was the issue. You should
be back in sync with the server.

Are you replying with a news reader? I noticed your reply was addressed to "All" rather than the person you were quoting, so they might not see your reply in a new to-me message scan.

That's the most likely explanation, and all is well now. Thanks for the input.
