Are there any SysOps with experience with the USR Model 5633b
external USB (black) modem in linux? I've been searching google
for help but all the help is like 5 years old or older. There is
no off/on switch and the modem only turns on when the driver is installed...
I don't have any experience with that particular modem, but a
quick Google search shows it to be what's known as a "Winmodem".

Oh that brought back memories!
Winmodem - an attempt by
manufacturers to save a few pennies when manufacturing under the assumption that everyone was using Windows based systems.
Fun times.
