Just wanted to take a moment to give a toast to 'eC' for his outstanding work on the Synchronet Web interface!

I can't believe how smooth and flawless the forum page runs. I love the Reddit like voting (though no one uses the feature it seems, it's the "V" key folks!), and thread combining for easy reading.

I honestly don't know what I'd change about it. Now the stupid fTelnet is still giving me issues, I have no idea why (assuming my proxy isn't working for some reason), but I just love love love the work you do.

    OK, I'm done. Thanks dude,
    -Andy

I have to agree, though, I only use the webv4 on a non-publicly accessible instance of SBBS. Perhaps eC should encode a 'donate' feature so people can support his efforts directly ... though, no offense, I am still 'paying off' the sbbs.key DM gave me in '95 :-P

I like eChicken's web interface too. I like how it looks, and I think it works well.

The voting isn't really specific to his ecweb interface though - Voting is a feature that was added to Synchronet for 3.17, and echicken simply added a feature to his web interface to allow voting. Synchronet's stock message reader on the telnet interface allows voting too.

I used flashterm with my BBS back in the day. It was pretty good at the time. IIRC fTelnet started with Flash as well, then Flash became a fallback if the HTML5 client wouldn't work. fTelnet has always seemed generally faster, and I think a little more faithful to ANSI-BBS and CP437.

Yes, I think the HTML5 version of fTelnet was called HTMLTerm, but I'm not sure if Rick Parrish still uses that name for it though, or if he uses fTelnet to refer to both. And I remember Flashterm having some problems displaying some ANSI screens, whereas fTelnet worked a lot better.

I had a new user questionnaire set up with Synchronet (which I don't think my copy of Synchronet is using anymore, for some reason), and one of my questions was what terminal the user usually used. I had some people who said they sometimes used FlashTerm, which is how I originally found out about it.

vert points to my Win10-x64 system. web.synchro.net is a "virtual web host" on cvs.synchro.net (my Debian Linux system).

Is web.synchro.net set up just for ecwebv4?

Yeah, pretty much. I'm also using ecwebv4 on bbs.synchro.net which is my Win7-32 VM, but it's kind of slow there.

    I haven't seen web.synchro.net before, and I'm curious why the 2 different sites (web.synchro.net and vert.synchro.net)?

I run 3 instances of sbbs and cvs.synchro.net points to a static html document. I needed another hostname to use for the webv4 stuff on my Linux system, so I just picked web.* since www.* was already being used for the static Synchronet pages.

    I see "Redirecting to Server..."
and that's it. doesn't connect. I'm guessing it's not getting to the ws/wss thing portal or something.

So, WSS is for clients connecting via HTTPS. Looks like you don't have that set up.

I can connect to port 1123 on your system externally, and the "Redirecting to server" message you see in fTelnet is generated by your WebSocket (WS) service, so I would guess that's at least running and accepting connections.

So your WebSocket service seems unable to connect to your telnet server. Unless told otherwise, it tries to connect to localhost on whatever port your telnet server is configured to listen on (in sbbs.ini).

Does your telnet server bind to all interfaces, or just one? Can you telnet to port 23 of localhost from the same machine your BBS is running on?

That's true, I'd probably feel some sort of obligation if I accepted money for something. But there are also companies that go out of business fairly often. It happens, I suppose.. Sometimes companies just don't make it and can't stick around. One time, I bought a CD player from Future Shop when they still had stores in the US, and I decided to go ahead and buy Future Shop's extended warranty on it (which lasted 1 or 2 years or so). Then Future Shop closed all their US stores a couple months later. Another time, I was working for a small start-up company that didn't last, and I heard his existing customers were pissed when he had to close his business.

when i was running my various services i had people donate every month. i still felt bad about it even though it went into an acct that only was for the server bill. you become obligated to people and then you dont have 100% control to stop or change what you are doing if you have a conscience.

Pretty much. I don't think that most donors have such expectations, but I would feel obligated even if it was all in my head. Not that I intend to abandon any projects or ignore feature/support requests, but there's a freedom to knowing that I *could* if I had to or my heart wasn't in it.

    I see "Redirecting to Server..."

    CLIENT CONN: Telnet
    ADDR: corexp [::1]
    TERM: 80x24 ANSI
    SERVER NAME: SHODANs Core
    ADDR: shodanscore.com
    NODE: 2 (of 6) - Windows NT Version 5.1 (Build 2600) Service Pack 3
TIME: Tue Mar 12 2019 08:10 am PDT
    ADMN: Android8675

That's what I get if I connect to localhost:23 on my bbs vm. Wonder if IPv6 has something to do with it (just guessing).

Yeah, I should add that I can't get https to work at all. I tried setting up letsencrypt, but I get errors when it runs that I can't figure out. My webservice prints these errors all day. I think it's trying to do something, but something's not right.

the whole web ssh thing and keys and encryption is confusing as hell to me.
