It might depend on the editor you're using. I have a feeling what you might need is some kind of online ANSI editor that can post messages.. I think most editors I've used on a BBS don't really handle ANSI.

The BBS "handles" (displays) "Ansi Screens" just fine. You just don't know what you're doing.

There is "the editor", but anyway, you can use raw input mode to raw/ascii-upoload an ANSI as a message. Hit Ctrl-Z to enter raw input mode before posting your message and Ctrl-Z to stop the upload (and exit raw input mode).

That may be but it's good to know I can get the job done on a Mystic BBS. I don't have the time to play around with "back doors" or reading 20 years of Docmentation for something that should be easy even for a novice SysOp.

Most message editors don't take too kindly to pasting ANSI escape sequences.
This thread gave me an idea though. I think it would be possible for a message editor to have an "upload" option, where someone could upload a file to be posted instead of typing in the message. I was thinking of adding that to SlyEdit, though offhand I don't remember if you can initiate a file upload via JavaScript..

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "don't handle". From what I remember, I thought Synchronet had an area where ANSI screens could be posted and viewed. Also, Digital Man has shared a way to upload ANSI screens to Synchronet.

I didn't say Mystic was better BBS software. I'm just saying Mystic handles posting BBS ads better and much easier. The option to upload to the editor is built in. Just upload the ansi to the editor and post it and your done. And the Ansi looks exactly like the one you created. The hidden ctrl-z option in Synchronet mangles my ansi.
Synchronet has been in development for

Looks like an issue with word-wrap. Disabling word-wrap (Ctrl-Z) shows the ANSI content fine. It's an easy fix in the code.

Raw i/o mode disables all the editors (including the built-in editor). I'm not
ure which "the editor" the original poster was referring to, but I think it's moot point now.

So what prompt do you need to be at when you hit CTRL-Z? Thanks!
There are other things with Mystic that, IMHO, are a PITA compared to Synchronet. Also, with DM you will usually get an answer fairly quick and a fix, too, if one is necessary. Mystic goes through periods of basic abandonment.
Being open source also means you can get in and have a poke-around yourself, if you want.

Looks like word-wrapping of message text in the Terminal server was added in November of 2011: http://cvs.synchro.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/src/sbbs3/getms g.cpp?revision=1.41&view=markup

Any prompt before posting (e.g. the main menu, before hitting 'P' to post). Ctrl-Z is a sticky toggle, so when you hit Ctrl-Z, you'll stay in raw I/O mode until you hit Ctrl-Z again to turn it off.

I wasn't familiar with this mode either... I tried experimenting on a local message base, but don't know how to "upload" the text. I did the Ctrl-Z and it said raw mode was toggled ON, and then after the message subject it's sitting there waiting for me to do something... How do you paste/upload the message text you want to input? Thanks.

My apologies. The mangled output of your ANSI was my fault and not
yours. The "don't know what you're doing" comment was mainly in regards
to your ZMODEM-msg-upload attempt which caused everyone's terminal to enter auto-ZMODEM-download mode when viewing your message. I'm sure
that's a mistake you won't make twice. But in any case, I added
protection to the internal message viewing code in Synchronet so it
won't pass those sequences on the to the message-reading user. Again,
not something most folks do, but still, good to be defensive and handle those situations gracefully.

You could modify the source for your own needs, but then you'd need to re-apply your mod when you upgrade to a new official version.

Some terminals have an "ASCII upload" or "upload text file" feature, which should do the trick.

If you're using Syncterm hit Alt-U and then select the ansi. If
you use another term find out what keys it uses to upload.

It depends on your terminal program. For SyncTERM, for example,
you hit Alt-U (for upload) then select "Raw" or "ASCII" and it'll
let you choose the file. If the file doesn't already end with a
Ctrl-Z, then you'll need to type a Ctrl-Z to tell the BBS that
you're done sending the file.
