• Plastic Straws

When I first read that plastic straws were being banned in California, I thought it was good, because they're not biodegradable.

I often go to McDonalds & get a large coke. For $1, it comes in a gigantic plastic cup, a small plastic lid, and a plastic straw. When I'm done with it, I put the whole thing in the trash - because none of that stuff is accepted as recyclable in my county.

What's so bad about paper cups with no lid and/or straw? Can't people
bring their own straw with them if they need one that bad? If you spill soda
on yourself, you can go ahead and liberally sue McD's for the cold balls, but on the bright side, you didn't put any plastic into the landfill at lunchtime.

Do liberals hate McDonalds? They do kill a high volume of animals, employ
lots of liberals (getting employed is what they hate the most) and they toss too much plastic into the landfills. But isn't this all really just jealousy because the owners of McDonalds have so much money?

They've got more money than any Hollywood actor, horrible pop singer, or corrupt politician. So we.... hate them for it?

    Hello Aaron,

When I first read that plastic straws were being banned in California,
I thought it was good, because they're not biodegradable.

Why not make them out of biodegradable corn syrup? That is what
many companies do with other products, such as K-cups. And ink pens.

I often go to McDonalds & get a large coke. For $1, it comes in a gigantic
plastic cup, a small plastic lid, and a plastic straw. When I'm done with
it, I put the whole thing in the trash - because none of that stuff is accepted as recyclable in my county.

Too many things are made out of plastic, which is not biodegradable.
Most of that stuff gets washed out to sea and then winds up on shores
of other places where it stays forever. Many fish in the water die,
along with wildlife on land, as the stuff is toxic.

What's so bad about paper cups with no lid and/or straw?

The cost for paper cups is far greater than the cost for plastic.

Can't people bring their own straw with them if they need one that bad?

A BYOPS is just as bad as a plastic straw given to you by someone else.

If you spill soda on yourself, you can go ahead and liberally sue McD's for
the cold balls, but on the bright side, you didn't put any plastic into the landfill at lunchtime.

Ditching plastic straws is still polluting the environment, even
    when using paper cups.

    Do liberals hate McDonalds?

    Only the Filet O Fish.

They do kill a high volume of animals, employ lots of liberals (getting
employed is what they hate the most) and they toss too much plastic into
    the landfills.

You should try their eggs. If you want a fresh egg, ask for
a round egg. Otherwise, what you get is something far from fresh.

But isn't this all really just jealousy because the owners of McDonalds have
    so much money?

There is always Burger King ...

They've got more money than any Hollywood actor, horrible pop singer, or
corrupt politician. So we.... hate them for it?

    Arby's. They've got the meats.

That sounds good! Better flavor than paper, I'll bet. I get grossed out when
I get paper in my mouth.

Too many things are made out of plastic, which is not biodegradable.

I agree, and I don't like plastic either. I don't want it in the sea, the
air, or anywhere. I'm willing to give it up, but I won't boycott it, or stand in front of McDonalds with a sign. I might be wrong, but I suspect that there are way more offensive plastics than straws.

The cost for paper cups is far greater than the cost for plastic.

If I had it my way, I'd be willing to pay the extra cost for the paper cup.
$5 for a $1 drink is fine, in order to help the environment. But forcing minimum wage workers to play mind games on customers is a bad idea. "Only
give them a straw if they request one." <- So the employee has to act like straws don't exist, and if they did exist, they'd be undesirable, but if the customer doesn't fall for the trick, then straws are wonderful.

A BYOPS is just as bad as a plastic straw given to you by someone else.

I understand, but it's a way to ease people into the extinction of plastic straws. A way to get people to understand that instead of dying of
dehydration, we can remove the lid and press the cup up to the lips.

    Do liberals hate McDonalds?

    Only the Filet O Fish.

    That's a bilateral sentiment!

I can remember when their large drinks (small and medium, too) came in a wax-paper cup. The lid was still plastic, as was the straw.

It's not toxic, since it's not biodegradable. :-)
It might block food or oxygen or cut tissue, though.

... until you realize that the polymers made from it are only biodegradable under certain conditions - which either aren't met in storage rooms or the straws get populated by microorganisms before you even use them.
If you want to go organic, use straws made of - guess what - straw.
