What do you all think about Trump's proposal? Anything you like? Dislike?

I don't like it much because it's a bit off from the type of changes many people want to see; it doesn't set rules for illegals already here, and it doesn't fast-track qualified migrants already in the system.

But it is clever enough and better than nothing; it can be viewed as an initiative, and more detail can be added in the future.

It's great that we're going to declare "No more asylum claims to be made from the border," but who are we telling that to? People who care about what the rules are? Where would we find such people?

The other part that's good, but quirky, is "Skilled workers first." Last I heard, we do have demand for skilled workers, but what's so bad about
unskilled workers who know how to use doors? People who come here lawfully
with no skills shouldn't feel left out. They can be trained here.

So it's a bit messy, but I'll take it. Like Devin Nunes said "Democrats
should create their own proposal instead of just criticizing Trump's
proposal." But when will that happen? Obama was too busy for it, house democrats are too busy for it, maybe people just need to do some classic
pencil whipping.

education (at least HS equivalent) and a trade. They were also checked
at the port of entry for contagious diseases, and if they had one weren't allowed to enter the country.

What is there to like? Breaks up families. The family is the basic
unit of society. If parents and children cannot stay together, why
bother getting married, forming relationships, having kids, etc.?
It would be nothing more than individuals competing against each other

Australia uses a merit-based system, which is what Trump wants.
White folks get more points than black folks. The more points one
has, the better one's chances. That is basically the way it works.

How much skill does it take to be white? No matter how hard he

white glove, which made him famous.

The "unloseable" election was lost by their opponents.
This was even more shocking than Hillary Clinton
losing to Donald Trump, according to those in Australia.

Didn't know a word of English. Or any other language. Except

I don't think this has changed or needs to change. Legal immigration seems
fine the way it is, to me. That's why I don't understand Trump's reasoning
for all this. I don't think the central american caravans are a bunch of
people who are frustrated with paperwork; so what does this solve?

I don't know who's been complaining about "chain migration," but that seems
to be his focus here. I love chain migration if it's done legally & not
through loopholes. At a time when illegal immigration is at its worst, my
buddy is fixing something that isn't broke instead. That's ok, but I am
worried that he may have just lost a few votes for this. (Not mine though)

I don't see what white has to do with any of this?

This is something I've been saying in recent years too. My version is that everyone is racist but some people are better at keeping peace than others. (not that one group is better, but one person is better than another)

But I don't see the immigration proposal as racist, just lousy and phoned-in.

I don't see white people benefiting from it, except for those whites who have in-demand skills and who are coming from other countries. If more whites benefit from this type of immigration plan (which is unlikely) that would be either by chance, or because of racism is their home country.

My dissatisfaction with this plan is because we have a huge problem with illegal immigration, but the president is playing around with some crayons
and construction paper.

the "N" word in public. Even though he did have a speech writer
who was a former member of the KKK. When running for his fourth
term for governor, he apologized to the black community for the
words and actions he had taken in his previous incarnations as
governor. Most forgave him, and granted him a fourth term.

But I don't see the immigration proposal as racist, just lousy and

Australia and Canada have immigration policies that are similar
to what Trump is proposing. While some call it racist, not all do.

It breaks up families, since Trump's proposal is merit-based, putting
an emphasis on skills. A point system replacing family ties.

Employers who refuse to use E-verify should be heavily fined, thus
discouraging them from continuing that practice. No wall needed.

Up to now, the focus has been on keeping families together.
If an immigrant is admitted, then his spouse and children would
also be allowed to immigrate. With chain immigration, that would
become the exception rather than the rule.
