I'm a disabled conservative too. I live in NY, and I watched our leftist governor shut down a mental heath treatment center in my city, and turn it
into a drug addiction treatment center. Now, the same guy is advocating
illegal immigration, which I believe fuels illicit drug use.

What makes you think the left isn't in line with the disabled?

I am not disabled. My views are more libertarian and I also feel like an outsider a lot. A lot of my old friends from school have really moved far,
far left and are pretty sensitive about it. I feel like I have to walk on eggshells around many of them. I can only imagine what trying to
communicate with them would be like if I were on the far right... I am
guessing they would stop talking to me.

Lets just say there is a sertin forum where I go and most are not. Its
funny how the left cares so much about the disabled but I have heard
that LA has the worst accessible transit in the country. I never went
to college and I'm happy to live in the real world but then I'm very
outspoken about the blind as well.

My opinion of college is that it is a good thing for some people, if they
know what they want to do and choose a practical major. There are a lot of unemployed and underemployed folks who chose a major they thought they'd
enjoy but does not really translate to anything they can make a living
doing. Since they probably took on a lot of loan debt in doing so, it
would be nice to be able to make $$$ to pay it off.

Most liberal politicians are about keeping the disabled, poor, minorities, etc., in their place so that they have something to continue to blame on the non-liberal politicians. Liberal voters either don't see through that,
don't care, or see them as the lesser of evils.

I can see that, as part of an even bigger ridiculous picture.

The fake good-guy badges worn by liberals are a tool that they use, but for what? To someday be able to charge $1,000,000 to do a speech? Maybe my guess
is as good as theirs; they could be doing all this evil just to fit into a crowd, or because they grew up hungry for money.

    Hello Aaron,

Addiction is a medical condition. Whether it is drugs or alcohol,
gambling or tech, or some other addiction, it is still a medical
    condition.

There used to be many public drug addiction treatment centers.
Drugs and alcohol are two of the main addictions (medical conditions)
that people suffer from. However, many of those public centers
have been closed due to budget cuts. In their place are many private
drug addiction centers. A whole lot of them, not just a few.

People who need treatment for their medical condition have insurance,
which pays the bill for going to those private drug addiction centers.
Those who do not have insurance have to find a public drug addiction
center. But there are not enough public drug addiction centers, as
most that are still around have few (if any) beds available.

Federal regulations put a limit of 28 days for folks to undergo
treatment, in order to keep costs down. After those 28 days, folks
have to return to wherever they came from. Those who have no place
    to go are left homeless.

Until the next time they have a relapse.

About 90% of those with this medical condition have a relapse
within a year. Which means those who are homeless are usually
only homeless a few times a year, rather than year-round.

Unless they have been busted for drugs, and a judge mandates
they undergo treatment as part of their probation to stay out
of jail. Which makes it a revolving door kind of thing.

What makes you think the left isn't in line with the disabled?

    Follow the money.

The Progressive magazine wrote a nice article on this subject.

    A party of one?

Why has our society become so polarized? It used to be, not so
long ago, that regardless of party or ideology, folks could talk
with each other and have real conversations. And even have some
agreements, at least on some issues.

Not any more. Today it more like a war. You are either with
me, or against me. Pick your side. And no caving to the other
side. Everybody folks their arms, and looks the other way.

Who benefits from this? Somebody does. That is why whenever
somebody tries to get the two sides to agree on anything, that
somebody gets shot down as being some kind of a traitor.

    So this madness continues.

The government is in shutdown mode. And this game can go on for
as long as the leaders who are promoting it want it to continue.
Each leader is blaming the other, rather than admitting their own
fault in the matter. And this game can be played over and over
again, as long as they want, whenever they want.

I blame you, you blame me, everybody else blames each other.

Somebody somewhere is pulling the strings.

    Who is the dummy?

    Hello Aaron,

I'd like to see someone like Maxine Waters fighting for disabled >Californians. If liberals were the goodie-goodies they claim to be, then I'd
    give them much more credit.

I'd like to see politicians of *all* stripes fighting for the rights
of *all* Americans rather than for just a select few.

It's too bad that we have become a country that is not "we the people"
but rather "we the rich". Sure, the Framers of the Constitution wrote
the document, which opens "We the people" - referring to themselves.
Rich, white Anglo Saxon males who owned property (including slaves).
A flawed document, to be sure. Amended 27 times since it was passed
and ratified. And still not perfect.

Politicians of both political parties are guilty of favoring the
wealthy, rather than protecting the rights of those who are less
fortunate. Why not do away with the death penalty, since black
folks are far more likely to be done away with than white folks?
Is it because of race? Or because white folks are wealthier?
When was the last time a rich man (or rich woman) was sentenced
to death, and that sentence carried out, in this country?

It is not just the death penalty. Black folks are given harsher
sentences that white folks who have been convicted of the same crime.
White folks are often given probation rather than having to serve
any time in jail/prison. But hey. That is a reflection of who we
    are, as a society.

What will happen when white folks are no longer the majority?
It is only a matter of time when that happens. Not a question
of if. That day will come within our own lifetimes. Some will
love it. Others will hate it. But it will come.

I raised a question as to why those who are receiving SSI are
forced to live in sin rather than marry. Those who receive SSDI
are not forced to live in sin rather than marry since they have
earned those benefits. But those on SSI have earned nothing, so
are entitled to nothing in return. At least, that is my guess.

What a sick society we are. Giving less to those who are less
    fortunate. Just because we can.

    Hello Seth,

Hello all,I find that in the blind world or disabled world that a lot
of hat group leans left. I don't at all aline with them and sometimes I
    feel like an outsider.

Why should the blind/disabled who are receiving SSI have
their SSI payments docked by one-third if they marry?

A few years ago, during the Clinton administration, Democrats
introduced legislation to put an end to that practice. But the
bill died in committee, on a party-line vote. That was to be
expected, given the Republicans controlled the House.

GWB was more interested in prosecuting a madman in Iraq than
helping blind/disabled receive full SSI payments. So nothing
    was done under his watch.

During the Obama administration, no such legislation was introduced.
Not even when Democrats controlled both houses of Congress. The
last six years the Republicans controlled both houses, so nothing
    could be expected.

During the first two years of the Trump administration, nothing
was done to change the status quo. Even though Republicans controlled
all three branches of government. Now, even though the Democrats
have regained control of the House, nothing can be expected to change.

So. Bottom line. The supposedly "pro-life" party wants
blind/disabled Americans who receive SSI to be penalized if
they marry, or live in sin.

Perhaps the blind/disabled should become transgender and be
counted as neither male nor female. That way, they will get a
pass from having to serve in the military. And will never
be docked for getting married, as marriage between transgenders
is not recognized by the "pro-life" party of the USA.

Either that or have Mr. McGoo run for president.

IMO, it's sad for children to have to relocate (disabled - maybe familyless children) to a different county
after they've gotten used to it here.

...And it's because of drug addiction, caused by drug use, caused by bad choices. It bothers me. I'd help those kids stay put if I had the money or power.

I say let's zap em! But they have to be caught first. And for statistical purposes, they need to be tried by the same judges or juries.

There are a lot of women who want a female president, and that's similar to "more blacks are executed than whites." It's just what it is. I think there just so happens to be more males interested in the presidency, and there just so happens to be more blacks interested in crime. Not racism or sexism; just the way it is.

It is not just the death penalty. Black folks are given harsher

I don't see that. Maybe that happens when it's a conservative judge. When
it's a democrat judge, maybe the white guy gets the chair?

What will happen when white folks are no longer the majority?
It is only a matter of time when that happens. Not a question

That time has already come decades ago in many parts of the USA. I'm a white guy. I was a minority in New Mexico for 10 years. I got treated like garbage
by hispanics and natives. If I was hispanic, I would've got hired for better jobs, people would have let their kids play with my kids, I wouldn't have been mad-dogged everywhere I went.

I don't hold it against them though; prejudism is human nature, and it's everywhere. However, in defense of whites, I must say that my hispanic wife
has not dealt with any obvious racism in the 4 years that we've lived in NY.

Eye opener? If you're white, stay out of the latino-southwest. Let them live their racist lives there, and live your loving non-racist life elsewhere.

Tech addiction. I think that is the root cause of why
the world is like it is today.

With the internet, we have all become our own experts.
On everything. We can diagnose our own selves, and find

One of the reasons they dock pay if your married is because if you think
about it you would be making more money if someone was living with yu.

What cockamamie bullshit. It is just an excuse not to pay out
what should be paid. The real issue is access to quality health
care. Until this country does away with its healthcare for profit
system, problems will remain for lots of folks. Not just those
who are dependent on welfare, but for everybody.

I always wanted to work and not be relient on the gov for money.

If you are not insurable, it is impossible for you to make enough
money to survive on. No company or business will hire you because
you are uninsurable. Insurance companies slap on riders so that
you could never afford coverage on your own, so your only solution
is to beg government for help.

Lots of people are homeless, taking their own chances without
having insurance. When they get sick, they just go to a clinic
and get what they need. Assuming they are healthy enough to
get there, and can find a ride.

Some of those homeless are luckier than others, having a small
pension for being a veteran. At least they can afford to live
in a box, rather than on a bench. When they get sick, they can
go to a VA hospital, and also get their drugs for free.

The reason why is because I want to be able to tell people I did it.

All you need is a tin can.

So that is also why I want to get married as well but to each his own I
    guess.

A tin can, on a street corner, raising funds for a wedding.
    Sounds like a sure winner!

    Hello Aaron,

Addiction is a medical condition. Whether it is drugs or alcohol,

I understand, but mental illness is a medical condition also. He closed >"Broome Developmental Center" and transformed it into uhh some drug rehab >place. I'm not the boss, so there's hopefully a good reason for that, but it >was a place that housed disabled children. IMO, it's sad for children to
    have
to relocate (disabled - maybe familyless children) to a different county >after they've gotten used to it here.

That is common, not just in New York, and has been happening for
years. Problem is, there are now too few public facilities they can
go to, as states have closed most of them down due to budget cuts.
That leaves only private facilities, which are too expensive for
those without insurance. Along with those whose insurance has run
    out.

..And it's because of drug addiction, caused by drug use, caused by bad
choices. It bothers me. I'd help those kids stay put if I had the money or power.

It is a medical condition. Rush Limbaugh had a problem with this,
and needed help. This affects both rich and poor, and makes no
distinction between race or gender, etc. Rather than blame the
person, look at how to treat the medical condition. If someone
has a toothache, the solution would to help him/her find a dentist.
Same thing for those who have a problem with addiction.

Sugar causes tooth decay. Should we ban sugar?
Pain pills cause addiction. Should we ban pain pills?
Cigarettes cause cancer. Should we ban cigarettes?

    Hello Aaron,

When was the last time a rich man (or rich woman) was sentenced
to death, and that sentence carried out, in this country?

I say let's zap em! But they have to be caught first. And for statistical >purposes, they need to be tried by the same judges or juries.

It may be necessary to grant them a change in venue in order to
ensure they get a fair trial. At least that way they will have
a fighting chance, unlike their victims.

There are a lot of women who want a female president, and that's similar to
"more blacks are executed than whites."

There are lots more women than men in this country. And most
adults, both men and women, want to be president.

There are lots more white folk than black folk in this country.
Yet far more black folk are executed than white folk. Especially
poor black folk. Mostly young single black men, thus keeping
    the birth rate down.

Note that no rich man or rich woman is ever executed. Of any race.
And no intellectually challenged person is ever executed. Of any race.
And no children are ever executed. Of any race.

It's too bad not everybody has his/her own excuse. What a wonderful
country this would be if everybody had an exemption. All people would
be created equal and have equal rights ...

It's just what it is. I think there just so happens to be more males
interested in the presidency, and there just so happens to be more blacks interested in crime. Not racism or sexism; just the way it is.

There are four women who have officially announced their candidacies
for the Democratic nomination for president. This is early, so do
expect more women to jump into the field. On the Republican side,
women are steering clear, waiting until The Orange One embarrasses
himself in his bid to win a second term. And then, it will be open
season, with tons of women announcing their candidacies for the
    Republican nomination for president.

Look how many women (of both parties) who are serving in Congress
today. A record high. And that number will continue to grow. At
all levels of government, not just federal.

There is more crime committed by blacks that has been reported
than crime committed by whites. But that does not mean that blacks
commit more crime than whites or vice versa. Reported crime is
not the same thing as crimes commmitted. For example, most crime
is committed by family members. Why would parents want to turn
their own children in? Makes no sense. Better to let them get away
    with it.

    Here is an example -

The other day, a white 21-year-old male got mad at his white
parents because they kicked him out of their home. So he went
to his white girlfriend's place and begged her to let him stay
there. She refused, so he shot her and her sister dead, along
with her uncle. Then he went to his parent's house and shot
    them dead.

Nobody reported the crime, as the victims were dead, and the
shooter had left the scene. Not sure if law enforcement has found
him yet, but if not I am sure he soon will be.

Usually, when a crime is committed, it is black on black.
Or white on white. For whatever reason, folks of the same
color tend to flock together, and live in the same places.
And most crime is local, so ...

It is not just the death penalty. Black folks are given harsher

I don't see that. Maybe that happens when it's a conservative judge. When >it's a democrat judge, maybe the white guy gets the chair?

The death penalty is not really a conservative/liberal issue.
Or a republican/democrat issue. About 1/3rd of all politicians
are against the death penalty, for various reasons. Of the
    remaining 2/3rds, some are undecided.

There is no fair way to administer the death penalty. And it is disproportional. If we acted only on our emotions, it would be easy
to condemn and pull the switch ourselves. But when we think it out,
we realize locking them up in prison for the rest of their lives
    is a much better option.

What will happen when white folks are no longer the majority?
It is only a matter of time when that happens. Not a question

That time has already come decades ago in many parts of the USA. I'm a white >guy. I was a minority in New Mexico for 10 years. I got treated like garbage >by hispanics and natives. If I was hispanic, I would've got hired for better >jobs, people would have let their kids play with my kids, I wouldn't have
    been mad-dogged everywhere I went.

Back in the 1950s, a white journalist decided to make himself black
by injecting himself with a drug that increased his melanin. He did
so under doctor supervision, so please do not try that at home. He
wrote his piece, and came to be known as "Watermelon Man".

He never would have been accepted in certain places as a white man,
but was greeted and welcomed as part of the crowd as a black man.

The song "Watermelon Man" is about this person. Read the lyrics.
Google it, and read the book. This is not fiction.

I don't hold it against them though; prejudism is human nature, and it's >everywhere. However, in defense of whites, I must say that my hispanic wife >has not dealt with any obvious racism in the 4 years that we've lived in NY.

We all make judgements. That is part of our nature. Imagine if we
accepted everything, without question, and just continued on our merry
way. That would mean we have no values.

By what standard should be make judgements? That is a better question.
Should we choose our friends based solely on the color of their skin?
Or on what gender they are? Or by what religion they are? Or by what political leanings they have?

Eye opener? If you're white, stay out of the latino-southwest. Let them live
their racist lives there, and live your loving non-racist life elsewhere.

Jesus was black. Had to leave when he was an infant to live in
another place where he could not be found. It's all in the gospel.
I mean, Roman soldiers were looking for a little black baby in a
white neighborhood. In Egypt, it was impossible for Roman soldiers
to discern which little black baby they were looking for.

Cigarettes are not banned in prison because doing so would cause
a riot. If you truly want to make a prisoner happy, give him/her
a carton of cigarettes. Even if they do not smoke, they will
thank you profusely, and become your very best friend forever.

Everybody has the right to a fair trial.

    Poor people can't afford attorneys.

If someone cannot afford an attorney, an attorney will be
appointed for him/her. At state expense.

I have no more sympathy for black people than for any other race.

There are many flaws in our criminal justice system that need
to be corrected. Until those flaws are corrected, the system will
remain unfair for many people. Not just black people.

If a young black man lives in racist white Pennsylvania, and nobody will
hire him, he needs to move on down to Baltimore, or wherever black people
    are not a minority.

At the turn of the century many Sicilians and Italians emigrated
to Louisiana, settling in New Orleans. The women stayed home, since
they could speak only Italian, and took care of the kids. The few
women who worked, or wanted to work, sold vegetables at the Farmer's
Market in the French Quarter. The only place the men could find
work was at the docks, loading and unloading freight. Hardest
job in the world. The only men willing and able to do it being
Italians and blacks. Working side by side.

There were so many Sicilians and Italians in New Orleans during
this period that the largest macaroni factory in the world was built.
The building is still standing today, although it is a hotel rather
    than a macaroni factory.

The city of New Orleans has an international flavor, with many
races and cultures present. My great-grandfather emigrated to the
US, and settled in New Orleans. He then returned to Italy and
returned to New Orleans with my grandfather, who was just a baby
when he arrived. It took him a while to get his entire family
to New Orleans (my great-grandparents had 13 kids). I mean,
what else can you expect Sicilians to do on an island with no
    work to do?

I'm not going to apply for work in Mexico and expect Mexicans to hire me
(even if I'm the most qualified) because I'm not oblivious to racism.

When in Mexico you have to learn how to take a siesta.
It is part of the job training.

Save the taxpayers a lot of dough, and fewer appeals.

Time for change? Like Obama said? Well, this situation will change at about

I wonder what those folks are saying now that Kamala Harris has
officially announced her candidacy for president? Some folks are
proclaiming her as being "the female Obama" - expecting her to
be The One who will save us all ...

I'm not discouraging it. But women haven't had much of a chance to enter

14 women. US Senators. And that was yesterday's news.
Today there are more. A lot more. With at least 4 women
officially announcing their own candidacies for president
    of the United States.

They are taking over. Before you know it, us guys will
be taking orders from them. Not the other way around.

    I speak Spanish fluently.

Hispanics define themselves by language rather than by race.
So why does the US Census bureau have two questions for Hispanics -
one for white Hispanics, and one for non-white Hispanics? Which
box do you think Hispanics want to check?

Mexicans don't want to speak Spanish with whites though; they hate us no
    matter what language we speak.

Blacks in African define themselves differently than blacks in the US.
In Africa, those who are not black are white. For example, if a black
person in Africa is of mixed race, say has one parent who is white,
then he/she is not black but white. In the US, Barack Obama is black,
even though he is mixed race (black father, white mother).

Hispanics do not view race as a factor. They define themselves
by language, regardless of race. There are black Mexicans.
But since they speak Spanish, they are Hispanic. Same as white
    Mexicans. Unnerstan'?

The common factor for all is learning the fine art of the siesta.
Those who master it are Hispanic. Those who flunk are hated and
despised, and usually asked to leave.

Their hatred for us is pretty strong, and it's not worth it to try to make
    them happy.

Hispanics take their siesta very seriously, dude. You really should
never awaken or disturb them in any way during this time ...

Was that the guy's point? To make the blacks happy? I will google it..

Blacks want to be white. The journalist wanted to find out why.

    Hello Seth,

Well its how I was raised and the fact that you would want to rely on
the GOV really shows me that your a follower and not a leader. Just
because I'm blind doesn't mean I have to think with the groupthink of
    the blind.

The recent government shutdown showed us all how dependent we all
are, having to rely on government for services most of us never
realize we have until they are no longer there. For example,
everybody needs to eat, and we all go to get groceries to restock
our supplies. But who checks to make sure our food is safe to eat?
That's right. The federal government is responsible for hiring
inspectors to inspect our food so that we do not get sick and die.

It would be nice if we could all grow our own food and live off
the land. But who has the time for that? And who would want to
work that hard, even if they could? Farming is hard. Much easier
to just go to the store and buy what you need or want.

Roughly half of all Americans receive benefits of some kind.
That does not mean that all benefits are welfare. For example,
SNAP (food stamps) are available so that every American can
afford to provide a healthy and balanced meal for their family.
    That is not welfare.

Programs such as social security and medicare are not welfare,
but entitlements. Like social security, social security disability
is an entitlement, with no income limits. Earned benefits, not
something that is simply given for the hell of it.

Although SSI is technically not welfare, it really is since funds
are drawn from the Department of the Treasury. There are income
limits (no more than $2000), and recipients are also limited to
earning no more than $65 per month. In addition, SSI recipients
are not allowed to own much of anything. No health insurance
is included, although medicaid is part of the deal.

There is dignity in work. But why work when you don't have to?
Most elderly choose to retire at a certain age and collect their
social security, with medicare included. Why should they work
`til they drop? Why would anybody want to?

The economy is for the person. Not the other way around. Does
the world owe me a living? As Sarah Palin would say, "You betcha!"

So do yourself a favor. Grab whatever you can get. Now rather
than later. You'll be glad you did.

According to Wikipedia around 20.000 men got executed in the USA, but
only 400 women. This is very sexist. You need to execute another 19.600 women. ;-)

I think Michelle Obama said something about wanting equal rights for women; maybe she outta sign up for this.

Which might explain why heroine is never found in prisons.

I don't think they do that after they move on up to New Mexico; maybe that's the problem- they're tired n cranky. Are you sure that siestas aren't only in Spain? My wife is from Panama & said they don't do that there.

Tech addiction. I think that is the root cause of why
the world is like it is today.

With the internet, we have all become our own experts.
On everything. We can diagnose our own selves, and find
out what is wrong with us. And then have plausible
deniability when we find that we are right and everybody
    else is wrong.

What will we do without the internet? We would all be lost.
Truly lost, not knowing a thing about anything ...

Not only are we our own experts, but we also have less patience when it
comes to obtaining things like information. Most folks are going to choose from one of the first choices that comes up in a google search. If that
choice happens to be from a less-than-reliable source, so be it.

I did just fine back in the days of encyclopedias, libraries, and reputable news outlets. It would be tougher now, I think, because those things are
much more difficult to find/access than they used to be.

care. Until this country does away with its healthcare for profit
system, problems will remain for lots of folks. Not just those
who are dependent on welfare, but for everybody.

I disagree with "for everybody." Something else I learned in Canada is
that, despite what the US politicians claim, single-payer is not
"immediate" care and, like the right will tell us, they really do not cover some things that private plans will.

I have a so-so private plan from my employer. I have never had to wait for care, beyond waiting for an open appointment. I must also admit I have
    never had anything major done.

While I was in Canada, I talked to a couple who lived in small town that
was several hours away from any large metropolitan area. The government
had sent them a letter telling them that, because of their age, if they
wanted the government to continue to supply medical care for them, that
they would need to move to Toronto... a long ways away from the North Shore
of Lake Superior, where they loved being. I was there, it was a nice place
if you like nature and gorgeous views of a beautiful lake. I could see why they loved it.

They told the government not to worry about it because, when they retire,
they plan to move to Florida and use the US private care system, which they claimed would be better than what they had (they had lived in the USA for a while before and were familiar with care here vs. there).

If Kamala gets her way, we won't have a private system anymore. They may
    wind up retired in Toronto.

A couple of days later, I ran into a Canadian-born US Army veteran. He
joined the US Army instead of the Canadian one because he wanted to see
more of the world. His kids are dual-citizens, and most of them choose to
live in the US. Now, we are always being told about how horrible our VA medical system is. He lives in Canada, and has the right to use their government-funded system. However, he was on his way to the states because
the VA medical system is better than the government system in Canada, although it is not as good as the private policies that his US-living kids have (his paraphrased words).

If Kamala gets her way, I guess he will still have his VA benefits to fall
back on, but his kids will be up a creek (unless they can use his VA benefits... then they will only be part-way up it).

Democrats don't like private health care because they do not like anyone
who makes more money than they do, unless they donate enough of it to their campaigns. Hence why they usually don't like the medical profession but
love union bosses and ambulance-chasing lawyers.

The only thing government care is good for is for people who cannot get it
any other way. It is a good safety-net, but that is all... if eveyone has
to fall into it, it will break.

That is common, not just in New York, and has been happening for >LL>years. Problem is, there are now too few public facilities they can >LL>go to, as states have closed most of them down due to budget cuts.

But how do you explain "budget cuts" to a child with little brain function? >I'm not blaming you, I'm just venting. Shouldn't housing for disabled >children be a primary function of the state? Like mandatory spending?

    Different department. See foster care.

In many states, like mine, mental health, child support, foster care, vital stats, and others are all going to be the same state cabinet.

Instant gratification. Google it and have your answer within seconds.
You'll know it's true because you found it on the internet. No need

Yeah. Nobody knows how to use those ancient tomes anymore.
Much too bulky and hard to find. Probably kept in some vault
