There was several versions of Binkd available under the name AmiBinkd
but they were all terrible in terms of memory leakage which eventually brought the entire system down. I tried them all and the last one,
v9.04 I believe, did not perform any better. The source for this
version was never published and I believe the person behind it tried to charge money for it for a while, hence it was removed from Aminet.

Too bad. Maybe it's time to dust off some old amiga programming and give
    this a crack.

If you are running in emulator and have a shared filesystem between
the Amiga and the host you also have the possibility to run mailer and
tosser on the host system. I'm running Binkp and Crashmail in Linux
and NiKom can read the message base through the shared file system.

Will have to try that, thanks.

And if your running you system on a real amiga, I can up with a way
    of using
binkd on a pi and having it pass files, both inbound and outbound
    stuff via
a null modem cable and some scripting. I could never get the Amiga
    build of
    binkd to work.

You can find a few versions of Amibinkd that I collected here:

Thanks, I'll give it a look.

Your right, no pun at all. I pulled out my old Amiga Programmers Handbook
from a box that had a huge layer of dust on it.

Actually I was referring to "crack" - as in, sometimes, with abandonware one has to crack the registration codes in order to use the program as there is no legitimate way to register it.

Software pirates use cracks all the time on live software - which is NOT what I
was implying. Much/most Amiga warez are abandonware - in many cases the developers are taking the dirt nap. BV(=

I here ya. Almost all of the amiga adf's out in the wild are the pirated versions of the software since making copies of said software is just
    easier.

I'm completely down with cracking something that has been abandoned just to
get the functionality out of it.
