    I bought a new (to me) car, a 2018 BMW i3. It's electric, with a range
extender (a small 650cc gas engine that charges the battery when
needed). It's a perfect little city car for me, as I work from home and
mostly run errands around town. We have a 3rd row SUV for snow trips and
    larger groups.

In the charging menu, you tell it when you leave in the morning, and it
makes sure you're fully charged by then. It has an option marked
"climate control", when checked, it make sure the interior is at the temperature you set when your departure time comes.

If only it could turn on the seat warmers, too. :)

Sounds awesome! I've been intrigued by electric cars for some time now, but have never even sat in one, much less driven. :-) I need to go
to a dealer and check one out...

I just saw the news with a bunch of teslas dead because kd the charging statio
    were frozen or something.

Yep, and the batteries run down quicker during the frigid cold weather.
The car companies are blaming that on people running their heat too much.

I've got 2000 miles on my i3 now, and love it. My only concern is the
power monopoly. PG&E offers electric incentives (Heck, I got a $1000
check for buying a used EV!) and I'm sure are helping to lobby against gas-powered cars, while they raise electrical rates. My rates went up
18% this year, and I'm on an EV plan with peak-off peak pricing.

Apparently, it's harder to sell back power to the utilities if you have
rooftop solar. I'm sure the for-profit utility companies are looking
    forward to an all-EV future.
