You've overreacted and taken the "One zone to rule.." far to seriously. If look at the original post, it was meant be light + smilely.
A previous ZC used to make remarks and twist things into ways that were taken otherwise, by adding smiley-marks at the end. Many people have a vast archive of those conversations. If you think I spew vitrol, thats nothing.
I know it was a joke, but mannnnnn it was cringe-worthy, followed by this:
Further, the intial discussion was about why the success of othernets using one zone number and why not fidonet do the same. MEANWHILE, some other technical aspects have come to light. But there was no need bring ancient politics and spew vitriol into the mix.
Othernets are successful because they are NOT Fidonet. Thats what makes them Othernets. An Othernet that has one zone is not better because it is one zone; it is better because the quality of conversations are better and genreally tends to have less BS than Fido. You don't just suddenly get kindness and smiles in Fido by moving everyone to one zone.
The fact that it even needs to be discussed, or how some assume its such a simple thing to do a zone migration, is laughable and worthy of the vitrol when it is assumed that the one-zone idea is rejected out of stubbornness.
2D, 3D, 4D and 5D addressing were invented to solve technical limitations in the number of addresses available. What happens if we go back to one zone,
Fido becomes popular again with better sofware and now suddenly we need the extra address space necessitated by multiple zones?
And I am still waiting to have it explained to me logically and technically how this automated web-based nodelist management thingie is in any way better than the existing MakeNL system, who runs it, who is voted to maintain it,
how will this be better than any *C structure... crickets chirping my friend.
This is what I mean by fantasy utopia solutions to non-existant problems; not one suggestion I've seen for better software. I may not be a fan of Synchronet or Mystic but I greatly admire how it got people involved into the hobby.
