    Hi Paul

Watch for A41, on its way IIRC.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

Thank you. Update done to A41. AFAIK there will be a A42 soon (for PI/OSX).

    :-)

    Cheers,
    Thorsten

Yeah, I think we all have a time or two. That, or had a ton of messages gated to where there were not supposed to go ;) (even though the messages were on topic and the dump probably gave the mailing list more traffic in an hour that it has ever seen *smiles*).

My original post in here was also a BW packet and that doesn't happen for me. I

If you still have the reply packet that you uploaded can you send it to me? I'd
like to have a look at the input and compare it to the output and possibly share it with others for input to figure out just what the problem is.

YES.. I think I still have the most recent packet (SemPoint retains the old one until I write over it with a new one.) I'll crashmail it to you a little later. My laptop with which I am working with has a drained battery at the moment, and I am "on the road". You should hear from me in the evening, my local time, approx 6-7pm EDT.

    Hello August,

Now THAT is unusual. Could be something peculiar how SemPoint builds a BW packet, but Concord (rbb.bbs) has no issues.

Looks like the Concord author had a SemPoint user online and the BBBS author didn't so they saw different thing.

I have no experience with Concord (well, very little) and as far as I know you and I are the only ones uploading mail packets here on The Rusty MailBox using BBBS, so I don't have much to go back on.

I have also uploaded messages here using QWK and OMEN packets
and it works OK for me, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what is

It would. Hopefully when we have more info a solution can be found.

Great, I'll have a look when I get home. I work the afternoon shift so I won't be home til 11:45 PM or so, PDT.

I don't think Concord has any problems with BW. Seems to import August's messages without error where my BBBS has trouble.. :(

Anyway you could just omit the domain, as it's useless in MSGIDs. Most of us don't have it.

Just remove it from your GoldEd config (ADDRESS or AKA field) and leave only your Fidonet address.

I have to figure out how to write your name - support extended ascii properly.

The message you are responding to is not configured correctly either. His name is Björn with a diaresis on the 'o'. But as the CHRS kludge is missing many readers will not display it correctly. The encoding is LATIN-1 in this case.

For the CHRS kludge see FTS-5003.

You think right, no CHRS kludge. And no REPLY kludge either.

so I'm not sure that I can expect those characters to show up properly

Indeed, without a CHRS kludge the software of the receiver does not know how to show non-ASCII it to the reader.

So why do your messages not have a CHRS kludge?

This is because Mystic doesn't add them to the messages when storing them. AFAIK there is currently no easy way to fix this, but I'm hoping that this will be fixed in some future version.

Your problem is not new. It has been there for as long as I remember, so a quick fix may be wishfull thinking...

Maybe it is time to make a choice:

    1) Stop using non-ASCII in your messages, including the non-ASCII in your first name.

    2) Change to software that can properly deal with non-ASCII. (As documented in FTS-5003)

I wouldn't put that on top of my list of priorities if I were you. If the name you present in the nodelist and the from field of your messages is your real name and not a simplification for the sake of ASCII representation, and you do not use non-ASCII in your messages, the missing CHRS kludge is not a big thing.

I suggest you give priority to the MSGID/REPLY issue. Your MSGID misses the leading hex 01 and so it is not recognised by others as such. Without a MSGID there can be no REPLY kludge. IOW it breaks the reply chaining. Finding the original message in a busy area can become a bit of a challlenge.

    So what is the problem?

    1) You do not have access to the DNS zone of outworldbbs.com?

    2) outworldbss.com is not the correct host name and your NC does not correct it in the nodelist?

    3) Some other problmen?

Currently setting up a small seperate network at home to not open up
my systems here to the world.

Running a Fidonet node and/or a BBS implies opening some doors to the rest of the world. No way to do that will all doors closed.

You advertise binkp connectivity in the nodelist. I'd say that is priority #1...
