Cannabis sativa grows wild around here, a lot of it. It's
called 'ditch weed' because that's where a lot of it is. Occasionally
I find some on my acreage, and I just pull it up and put it in the
trash after it dries out. If I see some on the other side of my
fence I spray it with Round-up (the other side of my fence is a corn field, not somebody else's yard).

In 1987-1988, I lived on an abandoned hemp farm out in north-central Indiana. Every year, we'd get this -huge- hemp plant growing and the local idiots thought it was weed. The property owner who lived with us in a separate house used to get out his shotgun at night and sit near the plant as it faced out against a several hundred-acre potato farm. Every once in a while, in the middle of the night, you'd hear the shotgun go off. :D

When we moved, that plant was still there.

    Later,
    Sean

Not many people know that the reason hemp is illegal is E I DuPont de
Nemours Inc. In the 1930s DuPont invented a brand new synthetic cord
named nylon, but hemp was much cheaper, so DuPont had congress make
hemp illegal to clear the rope market for its nylon product

That wouldn't surprise me. Much how the Big Three automakers put a kabash on letting public transit expand in the 50s because it would hurt their bottom line.

It is legal to grow hemp in Tennessee but it's still illegal under federal law.

Yep. I doubt that is the only natural product which is/was illegal or discouraged by the FDA for similar reasons, either.
