• Stepping down

From Sean Dennis@1:18/200 to All on Tuesday, May 05, 2020 20:10:22
    Hi everyone.

As many of you might know, I have been suffering a lot of health problems as
of late. There's a lot more going in the background than I can discuss but
one of the things I am doing is lessening my involvement in Fidonet administratively. So, once I can get a few things straightened out in the background, I will be handing over the care and feeding of the POLITICS echo
    to Mike Powell.

I'm also removing several echoes I have in Fidonet but will be keeping BBS_CARNIVAL, CLASSIC_COMPUTER, MUFFIN, and TUB (the last two being support echoes for Maximus BBS and the Squish mail tosser).

I'm sure Mike will be able to corral cats just fine. :D

Oh I will still be around. I have eight echoes that I will keep an eye on
in Fidonet though they are mostly automated posts or low-volume. I am also trying to feed and care for my own FTN network, Micronet, that turns 20
    years old this September 1st.

I plan on it. Not really going anywhere but am trying to change things
    around a bit.

    than other FNT networks?

I created it and it's lasted for 20 years. That should say something. For me,
it's devoid of the bullshit that Fidonet is rightly known for and it's much more relaxed. Anyone is welcome to join and to be honest, we have an extremely
low turnover rate for nodes ... less than ten in twenty years of existance. I am happy to say that I have several nodes that have been active in the network since day one and I've had only one hub step down and that was because he retired from work and sysoping (he is still active as a user on my BBS in the network).

Honestly, the best part for me is that Micronet is still growing. It's not a big network nor is it "cool", but I have at least four regional coordinators and one zone coordinator from Fidonet that are very active in Micronet too. :D

    Hello Sean,

Just curious: what do you think makes Micronet cooler
    than other FNT networks?

I created it and it's lasted for 20 years.

Cool! That is the innovator spirit! What makes America great!
And the whole world, as all benefit from what others have done!

    That should say something.

Yes, it does. And it should. Not just for you, but for all.

For me, it's devoid of the bullshit that Fidonet is rightly known for and it's much more relaxed.

Fidonet is Fidonet, and has its own special charm. But I would not
want to be part of the same if it is more than one. Gosh, that would
    drive me truly insane!

Anyone is welcome to join and to be honest, we have an extremely low turnover rate for nodes ... less than ten in twenty years of existance.

That kinda reminds me of a forum I used to participe in back in
the 90s. There were only a handful of participants, but all were
hardcore. Kind of sputtered out when the network tried to expand.

I am happy to say that I have several nodes that have been active in the network since day one and I've had only one hub step down and that was because he retired from work and sysoping (he is still active as a user on my BBS in the network).

Small communities of users/participants can last much longer than
an entire network in today's world.

Honestly, the best part for me is that Micronet is still growing.

Don't get greedy. That would be your biggest undoing.

It's not a big network nor is it "cool",

It is the "coolest" thing in the world for those who use it.

but I have at least four regional coordinators and one zone coordinator from
Fidonet that are very active in Micronet too. :D

Good to hear. Keep the faith.
