I've heard from some that parents in India often want their children
to be a doctor or engineer, so a lot of their colleges are filled with

Yes, basically if you're a male in india you're either going to be an engineer or a doctor. A few sub categories fall under each.

It seems even a lot of females in India go to get engineering/technical degrees. One thing I've noticed in my field is that it seems there are very few American women in technology, but there are a lot of women from India (along with men from India) in the industry..

How did they get jobs in the US? Does your company recruit them?

I don't know all of their stories, so I can only guess.. They could have been already living in the US or have work visas sponsored by the company. I've actually heard some debate about the company sponsoring a lot of H1B visas, whether true or not and whether people think that's a good thing or not.. It seems to me that at least some of them were already living here and went to college in the US. Perhaps at least some of them just immigrated to the US at some point, like anyone else from any other country. There was also an intern who was on our team a couple years ago, and I think one of her parents was from India, who moved to the US some time ago.

I was just curious. In my area many people from India become Doctors. I know how they get here. Government grants for medical school. It's a burden for me because I don't understand a word they say. Even when they speak English. I'm not comfortable with that at all. I feel I have a right to understand what my Doctor is saying. If I have to go to the ER it's hard to find an MD I can communicate with. It's bad enough they have no "bedside" manors but you would think with all the schooling they would lose the accent. Even if just a
    little.

Some, I can understand, and some I can't. Years ago, I got a call from a job recruiter who had an Indian accent so thick I couldn't understand him at all. After repeating to him that I couldn't understand him, he hung up..

That's because, like, this world of technology is so like, boring and what is this thing called a trashcompactor? I mean seriously... Like... duh.
