There's also the twit list, but that amounts to the sysop putting a ban in place, which you said isn't enough..
That pretty much amounts to asking the sysops for a ban, which he said isn't what he wanted. I'm wondering if he meant chat messages from users on other nodes, and I believe Synchronet has a way to let users ignore those. Synchronet has a setting that lets users disallow paging, which I think might let users ignore messages from other nodes. Is there any mechanism in Synchronet for users to /IGNORE orSure is. I was asking from the user point of view. When browsing the
Usenet, for example, you would rather add trolls to your personal
filter rather than ask the newsmaster to ban a post, unless it
was very, very bad.

to ignore sub messages from him without involving a sysop.
I assumed he was a SysOp. I also thought he meant messages. Not chat. My bad. Can I get an attaboy for at least trying? Geez..what was I thinking??

Example user case: Somebody in some sub that is always sharing
information about some disease he has in his feet, and posts an
update everyday. I would not ban a person like this, but if I
find his feet uninteresting, I would like to filter this person
out so his feet updates don't pollute my New Messages scan.

not yet, but they can have a twit filter in their offline reader.
it's not really a big problem.
Do you want User A to be able to ignore User B in Sub-Board A while still seeing their messages in Sub-Board B? Or do you want User A to be able to globally ignore User B (not see any messages User B posts in any sub-board)?
Unhelpful answer: if you're going to read a "Politics" discussion board anywhere on the internet, you'd better be ready to eat some shit. :D
I think he is a sysop, but he was asking about a per-user setting so that if someone is bothering one of his users, the user could ignore someone.

A user can turn off node-paging/messages from the Chat: menu. If by "messages" you mean posts and email, no, there's no user-mechanism to filter ("twit-filter") those messages.

For you maybe not, but some users might want to be able to do that.
Ideally you would have filtering capabilities like those in the

I am a new to this, but I suppose you mean I could download the
messages to my own local storage and use a message reader of my
choosing (which does not sound like a bad idea).
Do you know of any minimalistic reader for Linux or OpenBSD that
may offer filters?

Well I should would love to block users and messages from annoying
people too. It would be a major asset to me.
Pot, meet kettle.

The twit list sounds like overkill to me.
talking about your feet is completely crazy to me.
Hey DM, do you have a country blocking system in Synchronet like Mystic does?

I was doing some research and found out these remailers are not completelyuntraceable. Which is good news.
