• Alias / Real names

From Gamgee@1:103/705 to All on Saturday, July 20, 2019 14:27:00
    Hi all,
Just wanted to post an informational message ... I've recently
reorganized my board to allow posting with an alias, instead of
    always requiring a real name.

So if you've seen me posting as Dan Clough, I'll now be posting
as 'Gamgee', except in message subs that require a real name.

To make sure I understand that correctly - is it generally
preferred to use real names in "sysop only" echos? Also how
about FidoNet echos - should ALL of them use real names?

    Thanks!

In FidoNet, it's on a per-area (echo) basis, but most echoes are real name only, so I just leave them all as real name only.

On DOVE-Net, all subs, don't care. Use alias or real name, up to you.

it is actually up to the moderator which is one of the reasons why echo rules are/were generally posted at regular rates...

    That's the easiest.

I have seen one or two othernets that have real names for the sysop sub, but it's not common.

VKRadio (my net) allows aliases. Ham/CB/whatever radio callsigns you may have are encouraged, but not mandatory, any alias (within reason of common decency of course) is fine.
